Happy Friday friends! It was a busy week here – not really sure where it went but we had another checkup on the sweet baby yesterday and everything looks great! We go back to maternal fetal in about a week for another checkup/scan to make sure my body is continuing to do what it’s supposed to be doing to carry this baby to term. If everything looks good then, I will just continue monthly appointments with my regular OB. I can’t believe I am already in my 5th month – 22 weeks as of yesterday. It is certainly going by faster than I expected. I’ve been feeling great with lots of energy during the day, not as tired as I was in the 1st trimester, but I have noticed that my body is slowing down a ton and it lets me know when I’m doing too much. Reminding myself that I need to slow down is not something I’m used to but I know that it’s important at this time. I’m currently reading “The Happiest Baby On The Block” and getting lots of insight and knowledge to prepare for baby and am enjoying reading it so far!
If you tuned into Instagram stories yesterday, I shared a question box and I had so much fun answering questions related to pregnancy and life! I will be saving lots of answers to a baby highlight if you missed it. I mentioned that I would be sharing a few baby items we will be using plus a few items that will be new to us. Preparing ourselves with just the essentials to not have too much is our plan. I think all of these items below are just that, except the owlet is a preferred item to have for us personally. And stay tuned for a post next week sharing splurge vs. save baby items! I think that one will be fun to see!
Love to Dream swaddle up | One of my absolute favorite products we used for the little guy and we will definitely try this out for the new baby. Our son always preferred his arms up when sleeping and this was perfect for him. I didn’t discover this product until he was about 12 weeks old and I wish I had come across it sooner. We transitioned him to the next stage swaddles as he grew and started rolling over. I will pack this one for the hospital and will cross my fingers that this baby loves it too!
Motorola baby monitor | We needed an updated monitor and decided on this easy and basic motorola monitor. Very simple to do the job, it has really good reviews and my best friend who’s a sleep consultant recommended this one!
Hatch sound machine | Why didn’t I know as a new mom the first time how helpful sound machines are? I must have been living on another planet! We ordered this one weeks ago because it was a no brainer. You can access the sound machine from your phone, it’s also a nightlight for nighttime feedings and it grows with your child. Easy peasy! I actually ordered this portable sound machine to pack in the hospital bag and will also use when we are out and about and in the car.
Owlet smart sock | Another item I’m looking forward to using is this owlet smart sock for peace of mind. This is definitely a splurge item but one I will be so happy to have. I’ve heard nothing but great things about it from others who have used it.
Puj tub | Our little guy came a month early which meant he was a pretty small baby. I’m almost embarrassed to admit it but we have 3 different tubs we tried for him because he was so small and the tubs were too big for him. I came across this neat little tub that sits right in the sink which will be so helpful for me to bath him/her after recovering from a csection.
Changing pad | One item I knew that I would not use again if/when we had another was the changing pad we had. Those things can get pretty gross if you ask me so I wanted one that was super easy to clean and this is it! A tad pricey for a changing pad but it’s one of the most used items for sure!
Stationary & rock bassinet | There’s so many different options for safe sleep for newborns and some of them can be very pricey. We ended up with this stationary bassinet with the option to rock and travel with. Even though it’s not one of those magic ones that move on it’s own, we will only use this for a very short amount of time. This is another item my friend who’s a sleep consultant recommended.
Bottle cleaning set | Definitely needed one of these and this one has great reviews!
Comotomo bottles | We used these bottles with the little guy who was quite colicky and will be using them again. I can’t recommend these enough. There’s only 3 parts and they are very easy to clean and steam.
I wanted to include one question that someone had yesterday in the question box because it includes two important items that I didn’t include in the collage.
What travel system and pump are you going with?
Breast pumps have changed so much over the last 6 years! I remember being glued to my bed and outlet with both hands holding the pump every time, so this time I want to make sure it’s hands free, lightweight and portable so I can move around the house with it. I have my eye on the Elvie pump and the Spectra electric pump! After sharing that response, I received lots of feedback on the spectra and how many ladies use it and love it! I’m thinking that one might be the winner!
In regards to the travel system, we have this Britax B-Agile & B-Safe 35 that we used for our son. I realized yesterday that it is expiring in March so we may replace just the car seat and base or I may do a little more research to find a system that includes a bassinet stroller as that is on my wish list. We absolutely love that the Britax brand is one of the highest rated for safety and our son still sits in the Britax Boulevard Clicktight Convertible seat.
What are some essentials that you used for your newborn? Did I miss anything? If you are expecting your first soon, I would recommend adding these items to your baby registry. Have a wonderful weekend!
